BFL Wiley
General No Comments »I did exactly what I wanted to do in the tourny. I hit my first spot and worked my pop-r across the ramp. I had one fish blow up and miss the bait. I then jumped to my next spot and again workedthe bait across a boat ramp. This time I put a keeper in the boat.
My next spot already had someone in the area but I puled in behind them and started throwing the pop-r but did not have any fish come up. I then picked up my 4 blade spinner bait and started slow rolling it under the bait pods. I had three fish absolutely slam the bait but no hook ups. I had a trailer hook on so I added a second one. but I did not have any more fish take it. When I looked at my blade the split ring was all stretched out. The fish have been hitting the blade and not the hook.
My next spot had a lot of bait and active fish. But still only had three slams and no hook ups. So I added another trailer hook and put one more fish in the boat. I had to corral the bait up on a shallow shelf to get the fish active and chasing. I may have spent too much time in this area but it had some really good fish in the 4-5 pound range chasing bait.
I then headed down to Tega Kay to work that marina and I had one fish grab my jig but it onnly had it by the trailer so that was a miss.
I worked a few more areas but only had a couple of dinks. I ended up with 2 fish for 3-5 and in 56th place. But this moved me up to 28th place overall for the year and made me eligible for the BFL regional in Ablemarle Sound in a week.
