A long night and short sleep

Could be anything, General, Training No Comments »

One thing about Travis is that he wants to sleep with you.  He is a jumping bean in bed and I end up kicked out usually or beat up by flailing arms and legs.  So I spent the evening in my chair working on the new ModX site and it was going pretty well things were flowing so I just kept plugging away.  About 4:00 I hit the sack and about 6:00 I had a small face looking at me saying"Poppy are you sleeping?"  So that meant it was time to get up.

It must have been a bad night for sleeping because no of us got enough and everyone was a little grouchy.  But we still made it through the morning wit the help of Sponge Bob.

After Travis headed back home I got out in the garage and filled my truck up and then filled the rest of my cans for our trip tomorrow.

We have a training class in Atlanta Tuesday through Thursday and instead of paying for a hotel room we are just taking the camper over the border to a camground that is 3 miles from the conference center.  So I hooked up the 5th wheel and checked all the tires and connections locked down the fuel cans and covered them up.

We are planning to head out about 10:00 tomorrow and I am going to hit the lawns and get all that out of the way to make it look good for the week.

I did get a message from one of the prospective sponsors telling me that they are going to be making decisions about the prostaff positions at the end of August. I am just going to keep at them until I get want Iam looking for.

Working on Modx and Biesel

Could be anything, General, Training No Comments »

I zapped my test domain and started with a fresh install on ModX.  The install process is so easy and pretty much error proof.  After installing it I went into system configuration and tried to get the SEO/User friendly URLs working, but ran into a few issues.  Everything works great without the friendly urls but as soon as I try to do it I get a 500 error. So I have to work at it a little more.  No biggy I will get it some time.

That ended up being about as much time as I could spend on it.  We were going over to Laura's workplace to see about grabbing their cooking oil.  We went out to lunch and then came back to talk with the kitchen manager.  Everything was good to go and the oil is the cleanest I have ever seen.  I grabbed close to 51 gallons in total.

We then stopped by Northern Tool to see about a fuel transfer tank and they did not have the one I needed in stock.  I have the short bed Ford with the 5th wheel hitch in the back so my options are kind of small.  I am not having any issues getting oil and the mixing process is simple but I have having an issue with hauling all I need.  I pretty much go through about 200 gallons a month when I'm fishing and with the wife getting a diesel also I have not figured out how to haul enough to keep going.

So we purchased 9-6 gallon cans and will start with these to try it out on the trip over to Atlanta for training.  I also had to grab a hand pump to be able to transfer from the holding tank to the vehicles (150.00).

When I got home I unloaded my oil and started making a cover for the cans so no one gets to friendly with them.  I made a lock system for them and the cover took about 2 hours.  Then I started loading my cans up.  My transfer pump is supposed to be a 30 cycle and it was shutting off every 3 minutes on the nose so the process did not go very quickly.

After I emptied my drum I started transfering my new oil into the mixing tank and put 40 gallons in the vat and added everything but 3.5 gallons of kerosene that I was missing.  I will pick up more stuff tomorrow and finish the batch.

Now I am back in the house writing on my blog and getting ready to work on my ModX stuff again.

Training in Lexington

General, Training No Comments »

The next 3 days we are teaching a class on Search Engine Optimization.  The first day went pretty well we have a really good group this week so that makes it much more enjoyable.

After the class I replaced the mirror on my truck.  Then I pulled all the sponsor stickers off the boat and unloaded all my tackle getting ready for my new boat.

I am going to try and hit her with the pressure washer tomorrow and then maybe wax her the next day.

Lake Russel pre-fish

General, Training No Comments »

Because next week we are training and then I have Sportsman's Classic to work I drove over to Russel to check it out.

Went out of Ramp 72 and the temp was a lot colder than Santee she was only about 55 degrees and the water was a little off color.  Went around the bend and started just beating the bank to get a feel for the water.  Drove over a spot that I thought I should come back by later and throught the drop shot.  After running the bank and not seeing even a minnow in the shallow I circled back out and dropped a bouy on the spot in 34 feet that had a lot of timber on the bottom.  It only took a few minutes before my son-in-law David hooked up with his first spot Then I hit a small squeeker and missed another then lost one in the trees.

Went to a spot that I have fished before and David hit a nice 3# spot out of 26 feet and I pulled a largemouth in the 2.5 pound range out of a tree top.

Tried to look up creek to see if there was some warmer water but that did not pan out.  So I headed back toward the main lake stuff and the next stop was pretty good with a few 2#er's and losing a couple in the tree tops.

So I at least have some sort of game plan for the next TBF tourny.

Time for a new camera I took 4 pics of David's fish and I just hook the camera up to the PC and it says no pics on camera so that is 2 days that it has not worked and it is killing me.

General, Training No Comments »

We finished up the last day of our training seminar and all passed their exam.

We are excited about going to get our new camper tomorrow.  We have to drive to the GA store and get the hitch installed and then come back to the SC store for the walk through.

I'll get lots of pics to post on the blog tomorrow.

Day One Training in Greenville

General, Training No Comments »

Today was the first day of class.  It went pretty smoothly.

I did find a new store that I have never been in before.  It is called Academy, I saw Chad Brauer's boat wrap from this store and we came across one after dinner.  It is pretty nice a lot of stuff, good colors and a pretty decent selection.

Getting closer to picking up the new camper….

Training this week

General, Training No Comments »

Well we a training class this week in Greensburg.  But we are also picking up our new camper this week so we loaded up the old camper nad dropped it off today at the RV store.

We will be driving over to their GA store in order to get the hitch, brakes, and wiring for the new 5th wheel.  Then we will come back to the SC store and do the walk through.

The camper was  onsite today and we were able to walk in it.  We did not care what color came and this one was brown and it looked pretty good.  Can't wait to take her home.  This week will probably drag because we have this going on Friday.

Getting ready for the Hill

General, Training No Comments »

I have been looking over my maps and getting my boat and camper set for the BFL regional on Clark Hill next week.

This week I am doing a training seminar for SEA of SC here in Lexington.  Which worked out great because the lake is off limits this week until Saturday morning.

I figure to load up the boat and camper on Thursday and have it all ready to shoot out to the lake on Friday after the seminar is complete.

My wife will not come out until Sunday and then we will spend the week in Wildwood Park and get some quality time on the water.

A member of the club I am in also qualified for the regional so Pete and I will practice together for the 5 days prior to the event.

I already have some thoughts on the lake and I am ready to try a few things that worked well in the past during this same time frame.

The lake is fishing pretty tough right now so a limit with a kicker is crucial to making the cut.

The BFL 2 day for the Savannah region was there last weekend and it took 10 fish and a little over 23# to win.

I am really excited about this event.

Almost back on schedule

General, Training No Comments »

After our training in Charleston for the SEA of SC (which went fantastic) we camper home and really tried to get everything ready for the next week. With the long weekend coming up we decided to use the camper for the first time. So Sunday I worked on getting the last half cleaned up. I think I tried every chemical in my shop but no of them did much good. The 12 year old S and S truck camper had a lot of black streak stain and just plain oxidation on it.

As a last ditch attempt I went under the sink in the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of Bleach sink soft scrub cleaner. It worked like magic. It took me 1/10 the time to do the second half of the camper.

I also drained out the fresh water tank and made certain everything was correct on the outside. We went to Walmart last night and pretty much outfitted the camper completely so it is always ready to go for under $500 bucks. We grabbed things like a small coffee pot, toaster, garbage can, a 15×15 screen room and all the necessary kitchen and camping supplies.

We did not get back home until 10:00 so we will load the camper after work tonight.

Of course when we got back home on Saturday I went into the garage to check on things and I noticed a small oil spot under the foot of my new lower unit so it is back at the Dealer getting that fixed.

And to top it off when I was rolling the camper out the door to hit it with the power washer I forgot to close the vent lid and crack there went $94.00.

Here is something a little bit different, We were at Barnes and Nobles during the week while training and I happened across a book about Tai Chi so I started doing some research and it sounded interesting enough for me to grab a DVD to learn a little bit about it. Now, you need to picture this I am 6 foot and 250 lbs I am a large football style guy I am trying to learn this very graceful art it is coming along very slowly but I am going to stick with it for a while.

On the fishing front I have been accepted as a Pro-Staffer for PJ Lures. PJ Lures makes some great jigs in colors you will not find in other jigs. A favorite is the 3/4 and 1 oz football jigs that we have been making a killing on in the early spring. Drag that jig over a 20 -30 foot point and just hold on. PJ Lures will have a lot of entries on this blog just keep watching and I will let you know how it goes.

Mayfly Hatch

General, Training No Comments »

I did my normal routing this morning ran to the dock I practice on, I noticed it looked a little different today. It was covered in mayflies. We had a hatch this morning and that dock looked like it had brown shag carpeting covering it.

The pack was there still. Not doing any chasing just cruising around.

The training started off really strong. The dock I am worknig has 3 major gaps between the floats about 18 inches wide and 6 inches off the water. A small 2 inch wide gap in a corner and them a small overhang in the back. My routing for pitching is hit gaps 1,2,3, then hole ,then overhang. The dock is 4 feet wide and to counbt as a good pitch it has to reach all the way through. I think right off hte bat I hit 24 in a row going through the routine then it stated going down hill. But that is why I am training so I can hit 100 in a row no errors.

I am also working the roll skip into the routine. I had a small swim bait on and it was not the easiest to use.

The opposite is getting much better. It is not only the coordination thing but just the strength of using that opposite arm.

At the end of this mornings session I was going by a new dock that had 8 gaps and only 4 inches of clearance and I went right down the dock and hit every one except the biggest one.

Did my weight routine today - Chest Tri’s and lower back
