Slight delay this morning

General 1 Comment »

I hit the road a half hour earlier today to get a jump on a lot of other boats, but there was a wreck on the road and it left me stuck for almost 45 minutes.  They ended up turning everyone around and I found another ramp in Sawyer Creek.

I left there and started moving up the Pasquotank River.  I was working pretty fast and even though it was horrible conditions, cold front and really low tide. I had a pretty decent day.  I tested a few fish and as soon as I got a legal one I stopped setting hook in that area and I boated 4 keepers a bunch of shorts and a few jacks and even a good pike.

I had them responding to my presentation and it seemed everyone else was having a rough day.

I found a place to look at charts of the area and I have a few new spots to go check.  I won't stay out too long because I want to make certain that my boat and equipment are ready for the tourny.

Working North River today

General No Comments »

I looked at the satellite map and though I could see a small launch near the Broad River in the North River.  So I headed out this morning in the fog trying to find this and save a half a tank of fuel.  I found the road it should have been on and started done this one lane road till I hit a private road sign.  So in the fog I had to back up the boat across the road into a field and then back to Elizabeth City I went.

I then took the trip around the point and into North River.  The Broad River was my final destination.  I started at the only civilized area in the river and it had some canals and a few dock structures.  I hit a few small fish in this area but nothing great.  I continued until I found a spot with a small ditch running next to the bank and hit 2 keepers and a few dinks as I worked it really quick.  I may have to return to this spot in the tourny.

I then worked all the way back into Broad but only a few dinks came in.  I started moving back toward the mouth and ran into a bunch of different fish.  I hit my first redfish, perch, flounder, a jack and some kind of panfish that I never seen before.  It was fun but not what I was looking for.

I then made the trip back around the point and hit a small creek that had a lot of bait in it and it was good sized bait.  There were fish pushing the shad around but I could not get them to hit anything.  I did have a few mudfish and a couple of bass come off before they got to the boat.  This area may be revisited.

A shortish day on Pasquotank

General No Comments »

Last month when I was here I only worked one half of a river and stopped right at a launch.  So that is where I started today.  I worked the rest of the river till I could go no further.  The action was not hot by any means but I did find another section that held fish and added it to my GPS.

I missed a few smaller creeks the last time so I reworked all those areas and as I passed areas that held fish last month I would confirm that they were still working.  I felt good about having fish still in those areas.

But once I finished all the areas I had to either run a long way to reach new water than run back to load up or just call it a day.

Back on the water at the Pasquatank - Ablemarle Sound

General No Comments »

I have 2 things I want to check this week.  Alligator River which is directly across the Sound from the launch.  So I headed South and After about 80 miles I was in an area to try.  I worked around a few creeks over there and hit some Flip-Flop fish (Fish that you need to flip back and forth on the dink board to see if they measure).  But I really did not find anything that would make me run back.

I did go to another area and hit this fish and few other good ones but I will keep this area a secret for now.

Nice 7 pounder from Pasqatank River -Ablmarle Sound

In total I put over 240 miles on the boat today looking at areas and creeks.  I did a lot of running and gunning.

Time for a 7 hour trip

General No Comments »

We got up and had breakfast.  Then we pulled out the boat and parked it on the street.  Then I hooked up the 5th wheel and started wiring the trailer lights.  The harness did not use the standard color of wires so I had to test each one and then tap into it.  I got them all hooked up and then hooked the boat up to the 5ht wheel.  It is quite a site all three in a row, but we only have to take one vehicle now and my truck has more than enough power to haul the tandem.

I will try to get a picture on the way out of the new setup.

We headed North and it took right at 7 hours to get to the campground.  The trip was uneventful and actually pretty smooth sailing.  I had a number of troopers pass me Or I passed them and no one seemed to mind the tandem rig.  We set up everything and then jumped into town to grab some groceries.

I had a list to take care of

General No Comments »

My list included going to the restaurants and getting any oil available.  So I got in the truck and went to the flight Deck and picked up another 35 gallons of oil.

Now that sounded easy, but I had to run and get another drill pump 'cause the last one was not picking up the oil and it was taking forever to get my oil out of the containers.  This does not sound like anything bad but first thing this morning I had to make up a batch of Biesel so I could use my collection drums to get more and it makes up really quick but it filters and pumps kind of slow when you are on a schedule.  I had to drop the 5th wheel of at the welders at 1:00 and I just got back in time to run it over.

After I dropped off the RV I started back in on Biesel and kept it pumping.  I kept going until the welder called then I went to pick up the 5th wheel and the new hitch looks good and it only cost me $100.

when I got back I started pumping then finished the first batch and started the second one.  I kept at it until 9:30 and I had a full tank in the back of the truck.

Short day on side job

General No Comments »

We pulled the last 7 lines and I called it a day.  I had to run the 5th wheel to a welder to see if he could hook up a hitch so I can haul the boat behind it.

I made it over there around 2:30 and he said it was no problem and I will bring it back tomorrow around 1:00 to get it all hooked up.

Then we loaded up a bunch of stuff and pretty much moved into Laura's for a while.

Side and a really long night

General No Comments »

We worked on the hotel again today and it all went pretty well.  All we need to do is pull 7 lines on the first floor to finish all the pulls.

When I got home the real work started.  We have a home inspection in the morning and really want it to go well.  So we finished off the kitchen.  Did everything from hang blinds, put up a stove vent, new lighting, fan, hung the doors to the laundry room, fixed the dryer vent and electric connection, new knobs on all the doors, and then cleaned up.  That was just the kitchen, I had a few pieces of wood to replace on the front and side porch.  2 were easy runners but one was the bottom of a 5×5 corner post.  First I had to make the replacement part then get it in.  Oh by the way did I tell you it was dark out.

With all the running around and working we ended up hitting the sack at 1:30.

On the road back home

General No Comments »

We packed up and headed back home this morning.  Once I had the RV back in its spot and all hooked up I headed out to get some oil for my Biesel project.

I collected around 50 gallons and hopefully will be able to get a little more before we have to leave Friday.

We then moved a bunch of stuff over to Laura's and I helped Dave finish the floor in our room.  I also installed a ceiling fan and put on the closet doors.

Side job and house work

General No Comments »

David picked me up this morning at 7:00 and we went over to a new hotel to pull some cables for TV.  We worked till 4:30 and got 1.5 floor done.

Then I cam back home and worked some of the house items on the list.  I fixed a lot of drywall and routed out three of the cupboard doors to put new glass.  The Wife was painting all day the kitchen was green and white and we have to get rid of the green.  It is taking a lot paint to cover and she got done at 9:00.  I did a bunch of small stuff to cross them off the list.
