Forrest Wood Cup day 1
Tournaments August 14th, 2008Brian and I got up around 4:30 and had breakfast. We drove over to the launch site and arrived about 5:45. Ott just happened to be right behind me in the line so I dumped my equipment in the boat and we were dropped in the water.
There was quite a crowd at the docks and we idled around talking with everyone - David Dudley, Andy Montgomery.
The launch went out of the middle of the cove a long way away from the crowd at the ramp. We were boat 45 and had to be back in at 5:00. We went out and headed down lake just a few minutes away.
This next spot was the key to my whole tournament. I saw a bass swimming along and she stopped just off the boat. I flipped my shaky head in front of her and watched her flair her gills so I set the hook. She came to the boat and into the net. Only problem was the fish was hooked in the belly. And by the rules any sight fish must be hooked in the mouth. So after a few seconds of talking with Ott about it I tossed her back in the water.
It was only about 7:30 on the first day and I thought no problem. I did not get another bite till 3:00. I put a small fish in the boat on a Cache Custom Lures Trigger Shad way up the river. I had a few other fish swing at it but not really take it.
I ended up with a little over a pound for the day, not my best day on the water but I did everything I could to put everything in the boat that came close.
